Sunnybrook Elementary School Parents Association

The Sunnybrook Parents' Association (SPA) was formed in 1987 and has grown into a major force in nurturing the strong community at SBS. The role of the SPA is to aid the wellbeing of the school with a combined emphasis on contributing to the learning environment at the school and bringing parents together. The SPA holds regular meetings at the school. Every parent is a member of the Sunnybrook Parents Association and is encouraged to attend all meetings.

The support we receive from the Sunnybrook Parents Association on an ongoing basis has significantly improved the quality of the programmes we offer our students. The initiatives taken by the SPA benefit all our students and we are very appreciative of the tremendous assistance they provide.

Funding for the SPA is from annual membership fees and special fund-raising events throughout the year, the main ones being a social evening and the annual Fun Fair in May. Every parent is eligible to become a member of the Executive Committee. We encourage each parent to find the way to participate in school life that best suits their interests and availability.

Special Events

Throughout the year, the School and the Parents' Association hold special events, which are important to the school community. Your attendance is always appreciated.

•    Sunnybrook Reads / Birthday Book event

•    December Concert

•    Fun Fair

•    Annual Musical

•    Mini concerts by the kindergarten classes

•    SPA Wine & Cheese/Art Show in June

Volunteer Opportunities

Everyone benefits when parents become involved in school life.  There are many ways to do this, in addition to SPA activities. Most importantly you can support your children by talking to them about school, by encouraging them and by maintaining regular contact with their teachers.

Class Reps

Each class has a class representative who acts as a liaison between other parents in their child's class, their teachers, and the SPA.

Library Volunteers

A lively, energetic group of parents who lend support in a variety of ways to the school library.

Parent Skaters

A group of parents who assists with skating on Wednesdays in the winter term.

Parent Volunteers

Volunteers are always welcome on field trips, as class reps, and in many other functions. If you wish to volunteer, please contact your child's teacher, the director, or a member of the Parent's Association. We will be delighted to hear from you.
