“The IB PYP strives for a balance between the search for meaning, the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, the development of positive attitudes and the opportunity for positive action."

- Making it Happen in the Classroom, IB PYP Document

Our curriculum is unique to Sunnybrook School.

The essential elements of the curriculum are skills, knowledge, concepts, attitudes and action. This is a brief outline of our curriculum, as well as our Programme of Inquiry for Junior Kindergarten to grade six. This curriculum has been written and designed by the faculty of Sunnybrook School in accordance with the framework of the IB PYP , and with consideration of the guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The IB programme promotes:

  • A social and learning environment which is international and multicultural in its outlook. Our children develop an awareness of global issues and are encouraged to discuss these at home and at school.
  • Thinking, research and problem solving skills used in all subjects and in all aspects of life.
  • Academic accomplishment and character development.
  • Collaborative learning; this promotes a positive social environment.
  • High but realistic standards set by students and teachers that encourage responsibility and recognize accomplishment.
  • Inclusion, which is why our programme is co-ed.
