Kindergarten School CurriculumKindergarten is a special time in a child’s life. Learning takes place every moment of every day. In kindergarten children develop social and cognitive skills, which build the foundation for school success. Our full day program allows us to create a wonderful balance between exciting learning and a nurturing environment. Reading readiness and early math are the formative cognitive tasks for the kindergarten years.
Early LiteracyConfidence and pleasure in emerging literacy skills is our primary goal for these early years. We approach reading and writing with a phonics and literature based programme, which is both effective and enjoyable in guiding young children through the beginning stages of reading and writing. Books and stories continue to enchant and delight young children; our kindergarten students enjoy various reading experiences every day. MathematicsMath is a tool for understanding the world. In junior and senior kindergarten hands-on math activities are incorporated into the programme to consolidate the math learning in the classroom. Our math programme, Singapore Math, begins in the kindergarten years. We consider numeracy as important as literacy in our kindergarten programme.
IB in KindergartenThe IB PYP begins from the first day of junior kindergarten. We begin teaching concepts through active learning and inquiry, building on the children’s natural curiosity and love of learning. The Programme of Inquiry is constructed from units full of hands on, exciting learning, which open the world to our students. Science and social studies form the learning content, as they begin to create a greater understanding of the world around them. Personal & SocialIn addition to our academic objectives, our goal for these two years is to lay the foundation for successful, enjoyable learning in the primary grades. An emphasis on character education, personal development and social skills is central to the programme. We work with the IB Learner Profile with our youngest students as they begin to develop the skills and attitudes of an internationally-minded person. |
