House EventsA sense of belonging sets our students up for success. To foster this sense, each new student entering Sunnybrook School is assigned to a "House". Our Houses have members ranging from kindergarten through to Grade 6, and they make it possible to arrange activities that include different age groups.
The Houses at Sunnybrook are named after trees, and each House has its own colour, so your child will belong to Birch (yellow), Willow (blue), Maple (red), Oak (purple) or Pine (green) House. Some House activities require the children to wear their 'House Colours'. Each student receives a 'House T-shirt' as a welcome gift from the SPA when they arrive at SBS.
House activities allow the older children to learn leadership skills and be role models for their younger peers, while our younger students to get to know the older children and to learn from them in many constructive ways. Healthy, friendly competition between the Houses is a fun part of school life.
Students can gain points for their Houses in several ways: • Participation in House Games • During Field Days • Walking or riding their bike to school • Wearing their uniform properly • Speaking French consistently in French Class
House GamesHouse Games provide an active, fun start to the day. Every morning from Tuesday to Friday, Sunnybrook Physical Education teacher supervises House Games for students in grades 1 - 6. All sports are included throughout the year, providing variety to the House Games. The Games are optional, although we do encourage all students to take part in the fun.
Students in grades 4 - 6 are required to wear their gym clothes for House Games. All students must wear gym shoes to participate. Games begin punctually at 8:00 a.m.
