Our most recent SBS Eco Action Team challeng at SBS was to bring used markers to school, to be recycled into fuel. Markers kept coming in throughout the month of March and SBS collected 8 poounds of markers to send to Crayola ColourCycle It to keep the markers out of the dump. Great work all around bringing in used markers. Go Eco Action Team!
Graphic novelist Brian MacLachlan visited to share his thoughts and experience on writing books for young readers. His art and ideas about drawing and creating stories in the graphic novel genre were an inspiration to our students. They also really enjoyed the book signing, and taking their new books home.
The annual musical is a highlight of the school year at SBS and we are presenting Beauty and the Beast in May. Our musical is a community effort, with parents helping our teachers and students at all stages of the process. Preparations always begin with Rotations, when students move from activity to activity in the school, making props and sets, learning their choreography, practicing lines, making programs and more. We began with the first of 3 rotations on May 1st. After rotations rehearsals begin as we approach Opening Night. We are so excited to see another show come together!
Our annual Fun Fair was blessed with a perfect day. We had a great turnout, lots of wonderful activities (games, bouncy castle and slide, face painting, great food, jars and more). Our thanks to our wonderful parent group for creating such a fabulous day of community fun for SBS, our students and families.
The SK class is learning about Seasons and took a trip to the Science Centre to find out more! They learned about our earth and the other planets in our solar system. Exploring the exhibits opened their eyes to so many wonderful scientific concepts and facts!
Our Grade 2 class is in the middle of their Tree Unit. To discover more about trees, they took a trip to the Kortright Centre, and found so much more than trees. The frogs were a definite highlight. It was a fabulous trip!
Our Grade 1, 2 and 3 classes took a trip to Roy Thomson Hall for a special symphony concert by the TSO yesterday. They came back excited to make music and share their experiences.
The SK Class performed a wonderful musical show in our Arts Studio today. They brought down the house with their Hoedown song.
Each year our Grad Trip goes to Brock Youth University for a science camp and university experience. We had a wonderful time, dissecting owl pellets, making DNA and creating robotic cars. Highlights were the Dance and Campfire. What a great experience for our Graduates!
In spite of the cool weather, the fair was a huge success! Parents and teachers worked hard to create a truly fun day for the kids. Our thanks to everyone who participated!
