JK at Legoland

The Toy Unit in JK is a perrenial favourite! Our students explore all aspects of toys; thinking toys, building toys, creative and imaginative toys, dress-up and role-playing toys, and more. They have fun identifying the various ways they play, learning important concepts in the process. Making toys, learning about toys around the world, and learning about their parents' favourites are highlight of the unit.

The field trip to Toyland is definitely a special treat every year. Our students love everything about it, as they learn more about an all-time favourite toy.

Basketball Clinic

Basketball is a beloved element of our Phys Ed program. Students love this sport, and play it enthusiastically in class and on the playground. We are proud to send our team to the SSAF tournaments and games.

Learning to play basketball well is a welcome challenge for SBS athletes. At the annual basketball clinic at the hoop dome our Grade 4, 5 and 6 students benefit from the expertise of many coaches, as well as the wonderful facilities. This annual Phys Ed enrichment trip is hugely popular with our students. And this year our team won all 3 games! Go Wizards!

SBS goes to the Symphony

Our Senior Grades visited the Torono Symphony at Roy Thomson Hall for a Science and the Symphony presentation. The symphony paired up with the Science Centre to create a wonderful presentation of music and science for students from across the city. Our Parent Association generously funded the field trip for GR 4, 5 and 6.

Everyone returned excited about the wonderful experience they had blending music and science for a unique learning experience for all!

JK Five Senses Festival

At the end of the Unit of Inquiry exploring the Five Senses the JK class holds a Festival, to share their learning with their parents. This event provides JK students an opportunity to explore the nature of celebrations as well, as an extension of their Celebrations Unit.

The JK Studio has five stations in the festival where students show their parents activites to demonstrate their understanding of how they perceive the world through their senses.

Each student makes a Five Senses hat to wear on the day of the festival; the hat demonstrates the five ways that we perceive our world.

The Annual SBS Terry Fox Run

Sunnybrook School gives back to the community with participation in the Terry Fox Run; students learn about contribution Terry Fox made to Canada and the courage he showed in his run across Canada.

In spite of the rainy weather, parents, teachers and students ran for an hour before returning to school. Our youngest students in JK and SK ran along Merton Street; we are very proud of their enthusiasm. It's a great event for the school and a powerful experience for our students. Over the years SBS has raised over $60,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
